Organisations become lethargic: the ways we codify action into process and control leaves us efficient in delivering the same thing again and again, but unable to innovate effectively. It’s partly because innovation requires us to take on board risk, something that organisations typically like to avoid or mitigate (whilst in fact they should welcome it as the fuel of agility).
The lethargy leads to another state: rebellion. Rebellion is about casting aside the old. It’s message is one of momentum, of change.
Which is good, but what comes beyond the rebellion?
If we replace inertia with new process, it’s just the same old story under a new name. The secret in the Social Age is agility: rebellion upon rebellion, never allowing the lethargy to take hold.
